Medicaid is not the same as private insurance. Using Medicaid as a private insurance would be expensive. More expensive than subsidizing private policies. The idea that people are covered by Medicaid as a insurance policy, is absurd. That’s like saying; Welfare is a retirement program.
I don’t think Obama lied aout people losing their coverage; I think he just doesn’t understand what he’s talking about. People who met income guidelines when they went to the doctor’s office were automatically applied to Medicaid at the office. People who went to emergency rooms for treatment were automatically applied to Medicaid if they had no other coverage and met income guidelines.
